When your business has grown, but your brand hasn’t kept up
Your business has evolved. Your expertise has deepened. But somewhere along the way, the way you talk about the business — and the way it shows up — hasn’t quite kept pace.
Maybe your positioning is getting harder to explain. Your messaging changes depending on who’s talking. Your website no longer reflects the business you’ve become. Or you have good people doing good work, but nobody senior looking across the whole brand and asking: does this actually tell the right story?
Senior brand leadership, when you need it
A Fractional Brand Director brings senior-level brand thinking into your business without the commitment of a full-time hire. I work alongside founders and leadership teams to get clear on what makes the business valuable, sharpen its positioning and messaging, and make sure that thinking carries through to how the brand looks, sounds and shows up.
From your website and content to photography, film and the people you bring in to execute it, I help connect the pieces so your brand tells one clear, consistent story.

One person looking across the whole brand
You might already have a web developer, designer, marketing person, photographer or agency. The problem isn’t always needing more people — it’s having someone senior who can see the bigger picture and make sure everyone is working towards the same thing.
As your Fractional Brand Director, I bring together your positioning, messaging and creative direction, help you make the right brand decisions, brief and guide the people doing the work, and keep everything connected as the business evolves.
The result isn’t more marketing for the sake of it. It’s a brand that feels considered, consistent and much more like the business behind it.

What I can take off your plate
Every business needs something slightly different. My role is to identify what will make the biggest difference, set the direction and help get it done.
-
Brand strategy & positioning — clarifying what you stand for, where you fit and why the right clients should choose you.
-
Messaging & storytelling — turning complex expertise into a clear, compelling story people understand and remember.
-
Creative direction — setting the direction for how your brand looks, sounds and shows up across every touchpoint.
-
Website & digital presence — shaping the story, structure and direction so your digital presence reflects the business you’ve become.
-
Brand consistency & decision-making — providing a senior lens on ideas, opportunities and marketing activity so everything supports the bigger picture.
-
Creative partners & suppliers — briefing and directing designers, developers, content specialists and other partners so you're not left trying to connect everything yourself.
You get senior thinking where you need it, practical direction when it matters, and one person keeping an eye on the bigger picture.
Particularly good at the hard-to-explain stuff
Some businesses are harder to communicate than others. Technology, consulting and specialist services often involve complex ideas, intangible value and expertise that’s obvious to the people inside the business — but much harder for everyone else to see.
That’s where I’m particularly useful.
After more than 25 years working in and around technology, complex businesses don’t intimidate me.
I know how to ask the right questions, get underneath what you actually do and find the story that matters.
Then I turn that complexity into clear positioning, messaging and brand direction that makes it easier for the right people to understand your value — and choose you.

Your business changes gradually, so it’s not always obvious when the way you present it has fallen behind.
In this short video, I explain why genuinely capable businesses can still be overlooked—and how to recognise the gap between the value you deliver and what people see from the outside.

Have You Outgrown Your Brand?

Is a Fractional Brand Director right for your business?
This works best for established tech and service-based businesses that have already built something valuable, but need more senior thinking around how that value is positioned, communicated and brought to life.
It could be a good fit if your business is growing or changing, your brand no longer reflects the level you’re operating at, your message has become muddled over time, or you have plenty of marketing activity but nobody really owning the bigger brand picture.
You don’t necessarily need another full-time hire or a bigger marketing team. You need someone experienced enough to step in, see what’s missing and give the brand the clarity and direction it needs.
Senior brand support that flexes with your business
A fractional relationship gives you access to experienced brand leadership without adding another full-time role to your team. I become part of the business for an agreed amount of time each month, working alongside you and the people already around you.
Some months that might mean refining positioning or messaging. Others might involve reviewing a new website, shaping an important piece of communication, briefing a creative partner or helping you decide where to focus next.
The point isn’t to create more work. It’s to give you someone who understands the bigger picture, can make sense of what’s needed and keeps the brand moving in the right direction as the business evolves.

A brand partner who speaks tech
I didn’t come to brand through a traditional agency path. For more than 25 years, I’ve worked in and around technology — across strategy, transformation, communications, leadership and brand — so I understand complex businesses from the inside.
For my tech clients, that means you don’t have to spend weeks teaching me the language before we can get to the real work. I know how to ask the right questions, get across complex ideas quickly and uncover the value that isn’t always obvious to someone looking in from the outside.
That same thinking makes me particularly useful to expert-led and service businesses, where what you’re selling is often knowledge, experience or expertise that can be difficult to see, explain or differentiate.
I bring that understanding together with brand strategy, positioning, messaging and creative direction to turn what you know about your business into something your market can understand, trust and choose.
You know your business. I know how to make its value unmistakable.
Fractional Brand Director or Fractional CMO?
They’re both senior fractional roles, but they solve different problems.
A Fractional CMO typically leads the broader marketing function — growth strategy, campaigns, channels, lead generation, budgets, teams and marketing performance.
A Fractional Brand Director sits closer to the brand itself — your positioning, messaging, story and creative direction, and how consistently those things show up across the business.
If your challenge is “How do we generate more leads?”, you may need a Fractional CMO.
If it’s “We’re bloody good at what we do, but I’m not sure our brand communicates that”, that’s where I come in.
And the two can absolutely work together. I can provide the brand clarity and direction that gives your internal marketing team, agency or Fractional CMO something much stronger to build from.
